It is on the Caribbean Sea, situated roughly halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Adjacent to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef (the second-longest coral reef system in the world), Puerto Morelos is in a perfect spot for turquoise Caribbean waters, white sand beaches, and world-class diving and snorkeling.

Morelos is famous for its music and dance. Its most identifiable dance is called Dance of the Chinelos, which plays a major role during Carnival, but is often danced at other festivals as well.

Cancun is part of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, which is labeled as Exercise Increased Caution. So, it's not the safest place, but it's not bad enough to reconsider traveling there at all.

Lightweight clothes are suggested for most of the year. From December through February the weather is cooler so bring slightly heavier clothes and a sweater or jacket. May through September is the rainy season in Mexico, with showers in the evening, so a raincoat and/or umbrella are necessities.
