Puerto Morelos is a charming getaway that offers all the attractions and amenities of a tourist beach resort without the crowds of its glitzier neighbours on the Yucatan peninsula.

Morelos is famous for its music and dance. Its most identifiable dance is called Dance of the Chinelos, which plays a major role during Carnival, but is often danced at other festivals as well.

Mexico has a high risk of violent crime, including murder, armed robbery, sexual assault and kidnapping. Don't travel at night outside major cities. Drug-related violence is widespread. Kidnapping and extortion are serious risks.

Cancun is part of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, which is labeled as Exercise Increased Caution. So, it's not the safest place, but it's not bad enough to reconsider traveling there at all.
